Speech consists of many aspects, such as vocabulary, syntax, correct conjugation of verbs and nouns, the use of language in different situations, story structure. Problems can occur in all these aspects, in active language as well as passive language. Active means speaking the language, passive means understanding the language. Language development starts immediately after child birth and continues for the first 5 ½ years, followed by the extension of the vocabulary.

A neurological disorder, such as a apoplexy, can also be the cause of  language disruption.

Problems of finding the right words, incorrect formulation or not understanding the language can occur. This we call aphasia.
