Is Speech therapy covered by the health insurance?

Currently, speech therapy is still in the basic package of the health insurance. Under 18 speech therapy is fully covered by the insurance. When a person is older than 18 years, the treatment will be at the expense of your own contribution. When your own contribution amount has been exceeded, the speech therapy will be fully refunded.

Do I need a referral?

Since 2012, speech therapy is directly accessible (DTL), that is, you can come without referral to speech therapy. However, it sometimes differs from insurer to insurer whether they agree to this. Therefore check in advance with your insurer if you need a referral.

I came without a referral and still must get a referral letter. How come?

It may be that your insurer does not reimburse the direct accessibility. It could also be that something emerges during the first interview, which your GP should be aware of. At such a time you get a letter for the GP, in which the foregoing is listed, so that you can request a referral through him / her.

How long does a treatment lasts?

A treatment lasts 30 minutes.

What do I bring when I come for the first time?

When you come for your first appointment, there will be an initial meeting where certain information is requested from you. It is therefore advisable to bring the following:

- Card of the insurer
- letter of referral
- any report that may be of interest

When an appointment is missed or forgotten, you will have to pay the bill yourself. Currently, the treatment rate € 38.03. This amount can not be reclaimed from the insurer. This regulation will be discussed at the first meeting and you will be asked to sign a contract for this matter, stating that if you do not come, you will pay the bill yourself.
